The Washington Post is Washington, D.C.'s largest newspaper and its oldest still-existing paper, founded in 1877. Located in the capital of the United States, The Post has a particular emphasis on national politics. D.C., Maryland, and Virginia editions are printed for daily circulation. The newspaper is published as a broadsheet, with photographs printed both in color and black and white. Leonard Downie, Jr. was named executive editor in 1991.

The newspaper is owned by The Washington Post Company, an education and media company that also owns Kaplan, Inc. and many media ventures aside from The Post.
